If you do a lot of
work in your garage, you
may find yourself shivering through the winter months, or worse,
procrastinating due to the cold in the garage. There is an array of
garage
heaters that can help you
out.
The easiest approach to heating your garage
is an electric space heater. These come in several different styles and
prices, but make sure you’re buying one that’s
meant for residential use, so you don’t end up with an
electrical nightmare.
Also keep in mind the size of your garage
– or the size of the area in your garage you’ll be
using – versus the area the heater is supposed to heat.
Another option in the realm of electric
heaters is the wall heater. This works in the same manner as a stand
alone space heater, but you actually install it into your wall. You cut
a hole in the drywall of the appropriate size, then fit the unit right
in.
Of course, you need to make sure again that
it’s meant
for residential use, and you should be very careful when making the
hole in your drywall. You don’t need the added time and
expense of repairs to electrical wires or water pipes!
Other types of garage heaters include
baseboard heaters, which you can often find in people’s
basements, as well.
A baseboard heater is called such because it
is low
and long, and sits up against the baseboards in your garage. It works
in much the same way as any other space heater.
You can even get convection heaters for your
garage. These are often portable and use fan-forced heating, which ends
up covering a pretty large space.
A mounted space heater is another option.
Working like a space heater, and looking like a miniature one, it comes
with a bracket to mount on the wall. This is a good long-term solution
and eliminates the hazard of tripping over wires and causing sparks or
injury.
You can see that there are a lot of choices
when it comes to garage heaters. Be sure to always read the
manufacturers’ instructions and follow all safety
precautions.
